FAIRFIELD COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Fairfield County Animal Control is to provide efficient and effective animal control (non-wildlife) to protect the life and property of Fairfield County citizens, to provide a safe and humane facility for those animals that are stray or unwanted, and to minimize the number of euthanized animals annually. To educate the public on responsible pet ownership such as spaying and neutering; and welcome relationships with legitimate animal rescue organizations that wish to work with us. All activities shall be in compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations and performed by a humane and professional staff.

Objectives I:

• Comply with Federal and State laws and local county ordinances.
• Reduce the number of unwanted domestic pets/livestock in the community by promoting sterilization of all domestic pets thereby reducing the number of pets euthanized.
• Provide effective Animal Control Services to protect the public from roaming/vicious domestic pets/livestock.
• Provide temporary shelter for stray and unwanted domestic pets/livestock, maintain a vigorous program to reunite stray domestic pets/livestock with owners and maintain the vigorous adoption program.
• Comply with state and national laws and guidelines when euthanasia is necessary.
• Hire and train a staff of caring professionals to carry out the goal and objectives.

Objectives II:

• Enforcement of Fairfield County Animal Ordinances.
• Cruelty investigation and prosecution.
• A place to turn in unwanted or stray domestic pets/livestock.
• Effective Animal Control Services which protect citizens from the danger of roaming domestic pets/livestock and reducing pet population.
• Assist DHEC in enforcement of Rabies Control Act.
• Provide an ACO on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist Law Enforcement and rescue injured or vicious domestic pets/livestock.
• Public Service announcements to groups to increase awareness on domestic pets/livestock-related issues and domestic pet overpopulation.

Lost Pet

• If your pet is lost or missing please complete the appropriate form and contact our office as soon as possible.
• If your pet is at our facility, there is a $10.00 per day impound fee plus a $25 return to owner fee for the first offense and $50 Return to owner fee for each subsequence offense. Additionally, proof of current rabies vaccine/ownership is required. Remember after 5 days all animals become the property of Fairfield County Animal Control.
